everytime i train legs i have to be careful not to straighten out my legs that day or they'll cramp.

i trained them and that night i woke up to my right leg cramping. this hurt. as i struggled and managed to get it bent, it cramped again. then my other leg started cramping.

as i struggled, unable to bend my knees to relieve the cramping, i started making funny noises. i called my flatmate in and he bent one of my knees. from there i was able to wriggle onto the floor.

then it cramped again. by this time i was making all sorts of noises , was lying face down and there wasn't a thing i could do. fortunately he came back after hearing me yelling and bent my knees eventually i was able to get rid of the cramps.

thats all there is to say

As an ex-comp tennis player, I used to get this problem ALL the time. The pain can get brutal, especially at night.

Solution: 5 mins of hamstring, calf and quad stretching before bed. Makes the WORLD of difference.

Something else that helped me over time was the introduction to L-Glutamine supplements into my diet.

I had a problem with cramping and stiffness in my legs for a couple months through this summer. The symptoms were worst when, say, lying in bed, I stretched my legs out fully. My legs would feel numb and drained. The problem also seemed to have hit me abruptly. It was such a weird feeling that I thought I had developed some severe dystrophy.

After a few months I discovered that the problem was due to muscle stiffness in the upper portion of my legs (rectus femoris especially). After one massage session the odd feeling in my legs during straightening was gone and everything was easier from walking to more strenuous exercise. I actually wasn't looking for this specific problem, since I didn't consider it a simple muscular issue; I just happened to be massaging in the area (hips) due to an issue in my lower back. To massage I used my elbows and leaned into the muscles, while sitting.

I think the problem was caused by a lot of rollerblading that I did at the start of the summer. Having weights on my feet and lifting the legs up constantly for great distances would surely overwork those muscles when they weren't used to it.

A few more significant situations occurred over this summer that I diagnosed and treated extremely effectively with trigger point massage therapy (like the lower back issue I mentioned). My confidence in the accuracy of this theoretical model and its application is solidified.

I was cramping up last night, but I went and drank some gatorade, then stretched for about 10 minutes.

Over the summer I cramped up so bad that I yelled out at about 3 in the morning and woke everybody in the house up, but I couldn't get rid of the pain for about 2 minutes, the my calves were the size of softballs and it hurt really bad.

It was bad enough to where I couldn't get my big toe bent.
